Did you know that ESN started as one big buddy programme? Our goal from the very beginning was to help international students take their first steps in our hometowns. Because we’ve been there too, and we understand how important it is to have support in a new environment. 

And what better way to get that support than by being matched with a local who can offer insider tips and guidance? 

How Does It Work?

• Local ESNbuddy: As a local student, you’ll be there to welcome your international buddy, showing them the ropes when it comes to living in Zagreb. You’ll offer advice on things like housing, getting around, and local customs. Your role is to be a friendly face and guide, sharing all the tips and tricks that make student life in Zagreb great.
• International ESNbuddy: Moving to a new country can be overwhelming, but you won’t have to face it alone. Your ESNbuddy will help you settle in and make the city feel less daunting. From showing you around to helping with everyday tasks, they’ll be your go-to person for any questions you have as you adjust. While you’re learning about Zagreb, you’ll also be sharing your own culture and making a meaningful connection with someone who genuinely wants to help.

Together, you’ll have the chance to participate in all the fun events ESN organizes, explore the best spots in the city, and experience an enriching cultural exchange that goes beyond just guidance - it’s about creating friendships that last long after the exchange is over.

How to apply?

In order to get your international or local friend you just need to apply via our Buddy System once the applications are open in the beginning of the new semester.
